November 2011 : Jane Byrne's a Finalist in American Crew's Face Off 2012!!
If you scroll down to our September news, you can see that we entered American Crew's Face Off 2012. We're overjoyed to announce that Jane Byrne, Art Director of Salon Vie, is a finalist in the competition. This is really exciting news for us especially since the salon is the only finalist from the North West. Jane's winning model was Matt Colenso, a client of Salon Vie, who we can't thank enough.

The finalists party was held at The Point in Manchester where American Crew put on a dazzling catwalk show prior to the finalists being announced and taking to the stage. In 2012, the twenty UK finalists will attend a gala dinner where three winners will be chosen for a trip to LA including a professional photo shoot with American Crew founder, David Raccuglia. Fingers crossed.

September 2011 : American Crew's Face Off 2012 Competition
We're entering American Crew's Face Off 2012 photographic competition. Each model should display a modern hair look, created using American Crew styling products, and have a groomed fashion style that will suit 2012. The rules on entry are quite strict with each model having two black and white photographs showing front and side profiles. Copyright on the specific photographs we've entered is assigned to American Crew but we've posted some similar photographs, from the same photo shoots, here for you to have a look at.

May 2011 : The Results of the 2011 Salon Vie Stylist Shootout!
The results are in! Thanks to your votes, we now have the winners of our Avant Garde competition.

It was very close for first and second places with just two votes separating them! We usually award a special prize to the highest-placed junior stylist but, this year, we didn't have to because it was one of the juniors who did extremely well to win third place. Our congratulations to Salon Vie stylists Debbie, Jane and Leanne who've won first, second and third places.
We've also had our prize draw, from those who voted for the winning stylist, and would like to congratulate Julia, Jane and Amanda who win £750, £500 and £250 of hair and beauty services respectively.

Our thanks to everyone who took part or voted. You can view the winning entries, and what you had to say about them, here.

March 2011 : The 2011 Salon Vie Stylist Shootout!
For this year's Stylist Shootout, our stylists are well and truly unleashed. This year's competition theme is Avant Garde so pretty much anything goes.

To show how much we value your opinion in judging the competition, we've got terrific prizes of vouchers for £750, £500 and £250 worth of hair and beauty services, redeemable within the salons. All you have to do is vote for whichever model you think is best but only those that have voted for the winning model will be entered into the prize draw. Full terms and conditions for the competition are available here.

The only thing we ask when judging the models is that, since it's primarily a hairdressing competition, you should include the hairstyle, although it doesn't matter whether it's real hair or not, in your consideration.

Please choose from one of the 11 models shown below. You can click on the images to enlarge them. Once you've chosen, you can register your vote. Even if you'd be unable to use the prize, which you can indicate on the voting form, you're welcome to vote.

March 2011 : Jane Byrne has the Total Look
Congratulations to Jane Byrne, Salon Vie's art director, for winning first prize in the 'Total Look' category of a hairdressing competition run by our trade organisation, the National Hairdressing Federation. We'd like to thank Matt, one of Salon Vie's clients, for his patience and for being Jane's winning model on the day.

On Matt's way back from the competition, he called in to our photo studio, a glamorous name for what's actually a conservatory, to pose for a quick photoshoot.

February 2011 : Wedding Belles
It's that time of year, the time when a girl's mind turns to wedding fairs and there are certainly plenty to choose from. We book exhibition space at a few wedding fayres each year where we typically provide the hair and makeup services for the catwalk display and have ongoing demonstrations on our stand.
This year, we've ramped things up a little, equipping the team with radio microphones so that they can provide professional hair and makeup demonstrations.

Wrenbury Hall, where we exhibited in January 2011, is a lovely venue that, athough situated in open countryside, is only 5 miles from our Nantwich salon and 10 miles from our Tattenhall salon. Have a look at a few images from the day.

In February, we were at Crewe Hall, also a great venue with the combination of an old hall and a modern conference centre. We have a few images of that as well.

October 2010 : The Go Pink Grand Total

The results of our fundraising are now in and we're delighted to announce that, thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, we managed to raise over a thousand pounds for the charity! You can have a look at couple of images from our Go Pink days below.

July 2010 : The Total People Training Awards 2010
Emma, Senior Stylist in our Tattenhall salon, reached the finals of training organisation Total People's awards for Advanced Apprentice of the Year. This was for the excellence that Emma had shown during her management training, especially with respect to producing an extensive 'how-to' guide for all aspects of customer service within our salons. We attended their awards ceremony at Crewe Hall on Thursday the 15th of July. Our congratulations to Emma for doing so well.

June 2010 : The Race for Life
On Sunday the 13th of June 2010, the Tattenhall salon put forward a team of four for the Race for Life, a 5km run in aid of Cancer Research UK. There were over 4.5 thousand participants in the Chester Race for Life, making the race quite an emotional experience. The race started and ended at Chester's race course, taking in a large part of the city during the run.

We're very pleased to say that, thanks to generous sponsorship from our clients, the team raised over 500 pounds for Cancer Research. Our congratulations to everyone who took part and our thanks to everyone who sponsored us.

May 2010 : Stylist Chloe is a WINNER!
There's just no stopping Salon Vie's stylist Chloe. As well as winning our 2010 Stylist Shootout, which you can read more about below, Chloe reached the finals of training organisation Total People's men's hairdressing competition, held in Liverpool. Well done to Chloe and we'd like to thank Andrew, Chloe's model, for his time and patience. In case you're interested, Chloe is available for appointments in both our Nantwich and Tattenhall salons.

The three winning stylists of our 2010 Stylist Shootout, Chloe, Emma and Jasmine, are pictured below. Well done to all of them.

This is Andrew, Chloe's entry for the men's hairdressing competition. We've included both colour and black and white images of the finished style to see which you prefer. We prefer the moodiness of black and white in this case.
April 2010 : The results of the 2010 Salon Vie Stylist Shootout!
The results are in! Thanks to the public vote, we now have our winning stylist, the second-placed stylist and a special award for the highest-placed junior stylist. You can view the winning entries, and what you had to say about them, here.

We've also had our prize draw, from those who voted for the winning stylist, and would like to congratulate Lucy who wins £300 of hair and beauty services. We had such a large response to the competition that we decided to draw a second winner, Ceridwen, who wins £100 of hair and beauty services.

If you didn't vote in the competition, before looking at the winning entries, you might like to browse through the photographs below to see what your choice would have been.

Our thanks to everyone who took part and we mustn't forget Sarah and Daisy, beauty therapists at Salon Vie, who were responsible for the makeup of many of the models.

March 2010 : Introducing the 2010 Salon Vie Stylist Shootout!
We've unleashed our stylists, with the brief to create a selection of useable high-street fashions, and we need your help to judge the results.

Please have a look at the portfolio below and then vote for your favourite, basically the look that would make you most likely to use the stylist that created it. One lucky voter will be awarded, via a prize draw to be held in the Nantwich salon on Saturday the 4th of April 2010, a
prize for £300 of hair and beauty services, redeemable within the salons. To make choosing your favourite a little more difficult, only those who vote for the winning entry will be entered into the prize draw. Full terms and conditions for the prize draw are available here.

Please choose one of the 10 models shown below. You can click on the photographs to enlarge them or you can scroll through them in a gallery. Once you've chosen, you can register your vote. Even if you'd be unable to use the prize, which you can indicate on the voting form, you're welcome to vote.

December 2009 : The Nantwich Charity Santa Dash
On a bitterly cold Sunday morning, just before Christmas, a team of ten brave souls, from Salon Vie, took part in the first Nantwich Charity Santa Dash. Our congratulations to everyone who took part in what turned out to be a great event.

Have a look at a few images from the day:

November 2009 : Shopping can be so Mysterious!
If you read the article about our team building weekend in Dublin, below, you'll know that the Salon Vie teams spent some time being mystery shoppers. Usually, it's the other way round where we ask both new and existing clients to visit us as mystery shoppers and then report back on every part of their experience.

Recently, we invited Julie Coxall, editor of local publication The A41 Magazine, to visit our Tattenhall salon as a mystery shopper. After her visit, Julie kindly offered to write up her findings, good or bad, for the magazine. You can read Julie's review here.
September 2009 : We're back from our team building weekend in Dublin
The entire team had a fantastic time on a team-building weekend in Dublin. Apart from a bit of sightseeing, and the occasional glass of refreshment, the aim of the weekend was to be mystery shoppers at a variety of hair and beauty salons throughout Dublin. The team was armed with questionnaires, given sealed envelopes revealing their destinations and treatments, then bravely set foot into the unknown. It was surprising just how nervous some of the team were at having salon treatments done outside of our own salons. Let's have a look at a few images from the trip:
Watch out Dublin
We had great time at The Church:
The Salon Vie team at The Church in Dublin A special meeting of the Salon Vie temperance society Jane, Salon Vie's Art Director, and Charlotte Jasmine, trainee stylist at Salon Vie Tattenhall Daisy and Sarah, beauty therapists from Salon Vie in Nantwich Charlotte and Emma, stylists at Salon Vie Daisy, one of Salon Vie's beauty therapists, administering a vodka-based treatment to Chloe
...and, after that, went for a sit down and a cup of cocoa at The Academy:
The Academy in Dublin The Academy in Dublin
The next day, a little sightseeing:
Can you guess where the Salon Vie team is? Debbie, Emma and Jasmine, from Salon Vie Tattenhall, shopping in the Guinness Sky Bar at the top of the Guinness Storehouse Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin ... a very interesting visit The beautiful George Street Arcade in Dublin
... then to Temple Bar:
The Salon Vie team in Dublin's Temple Bar pub An exhausted Salon Vie team on the Ha'penny bridge in Dublin

So, what did we learn from the mystery shopping exercise? Well, quite a lot really but, mainly, that it's the attention to detail in the end-to-end service that makes the difference. We have lots of examples of how the service didn't match up to expectations but, given that the exercise was aimed at showing us where we can improve, it'd be unprofessional for us to mention specific salons. We must say that, in pretty much all cases, our mystery shoppers were happy with the end results of their treatments. You'll have to visit us to find out more!

June 2009 :
Listen mum, we're on the radio!
We've teamed up with Chester's Dee 106.3 to run a competition where the winner will get a free hair & beauty makeover and then £500 of hairdressing services, to use whenever they like, at our Tattenhall salon. Radio advertising is a first for us and this is a bit of an experiment to see how effective it might be. As well as the competition, we'll be running an advert three times a day over three weeks. It'll be interesting, for us, to see how it compares with more traditional advertising methods.

To get things started, Jane, our Art Director, and Emma, Senior Stylist in the Tattenhall salon, joined Mike James' lunchtime show to have a chat about Salon Vie, the Tattenhall salon and the competition. To be honest, they were both terrified but Mike was very professional and helped to calm their nerves. In looking at Mike's hair, both of our stylists agreed that he could benefit from a 'flick & smack', you'll see some examples in the news article below, and Mike's bravely opted to visit the salon. You can
listen to the interview here.

The competition will run on the breakfast show, from the 8th to the 12th of June. There'll be some questions about hair, not always as simple as you might think although Google will probably help, and a tie-breaker asking the competitors to explain why they should win the prize. On the 12th, Jane and Emma will be joining the breakfast show, at 08:30, to judge the competition.

The week after, Irene, from Dee 106.3's breakfast show, and the competition winner will both be in the Tattenhall salon for a makeover.

Phew! We'll keep you updated on how the makeovers go, and should have some images to post here when they happen. Have a look at some of today's images:

Jane and Emma at Dee 106.3 Not at all nervous Don't worry, it'll be fun! In the studio with Mike James at Chester's Dee 106.3 In the studio with Mike James at Chester's Dee 106.3 In the studio with Mike James at Chester's Dee 106.3

One week on and we're back at Chester's Dee106.3, this time to appear on the breakfast show.  Have a look at some images from the day:
Jane and Emma with Gavin and Irene on Dee 106.3's breakfast show Jane and Emma rehearsing their song for Dee 106.3's breakfast show
The main competition, for the makeover and £500 of hairdressing, is now underway. All of the questions are related to hairdressing. Let's see what the questions were:
Monday's question was 'What does GHD stand for?'. We'll let you look up the answer for yourselves. You can listen to:
Tuesday's question and answer
Wednesday's question and answer
Thursday's question and answer
Friday's question, answer and selection of the winner

Jane and Emma have also been talked into helping with the show's 'Singalong' competition where they'll sing a track, using a completely different tune to what it's supposed to have, and the listeners will try to work out what the track is. More of the track will be played throughout the week. Correct answers will be entered into a prize draw to win a goodie bag of exclusive styling products from Salon Vie. You can listen to:
Monday's interview and Singalong competition
Tuesday's Singalong competition
Wednesday's Singalong competition
Thursday's Singalong competition
Friday's Singalong competition, Jane & Emma choosing a winner and the answer
Do you know what the song is? Are you as, ahem, impressed as we are with the vocal talents of Jane and Emma? To be honest, they did great. It can't be easy standing in a recording studio not knowing what you're singing.

Another week on and it's time for Irene and Kay, the competition winner, to have their makeovers at the Tattenhall salon. We've got some before, during and after images of both. Irene also called in to Mike James' lunchtime show to let him know how the makeover's were going on and let Salon Vie's stylists, Jane and Emma, explain what was happening. These are the audio clips:

May 2009 : A look at the Tattenhall salon
It's hardly news but, since there are lots of images of the Nantwich salon on here, we thought we'd include a few of Tattenhall.

Salon Vie has the ground floor of a lovely building, Olympus House, that's right in the centre of the high street, directly across from the
Village Indian. There's plenty of free parking at the back of Olympus House where you'll find the entrance to the salon.

Let's have a look at a few historical images of Olympus house:
You may have noticed the post box that's in our stairwell. Why is it here? We're assuming it's a leftover from the M.O.D. occupying the building. Do you know different? When we did the re-fit, the interior, which used to be three offices in what's now the main salon, went from this:

... to this:

April 2009 : Can we interest you in a 'flick & smack'?
What's that? Well, it's Wahl-speak for one of their creative techniques in clipper cutting. All stylists from our Nantwich and Tattenhall salons have completed an exciting, in-house practical seminar run by Simon Shaw of Wahl, suppliers of professional hair clippers. Our vocabulary is now extended with, in addition to 'flick & smack', phrases such as 'teardrop fringe', 'boomeranging' and 'hair peeling'. These are amongst a variety of terrific hair effects, for both men and women, that can be created using clippers. Have a look at some images from the day:
December 2008 : Salon Vie Beauty Opens
We're fully open, with Salon Vie Beauty now occupying the first floor. The first treatment room on the first floor, used for massages, used to look like this:
Our plush office ... it'll be a massage room eventually and now looks like this Beauty treatment room 1.

The waiting area, makeup and nail bars are in treatment room two which used to look like this:
Beauty treatment room 2 ... how it looked before and now looks like this Beauty treatment room 2  Beauty treatment room 2  Beauty treatment room 2. We're just waiting for some soft fabrics to be delivered to completely finish this room.

Another massage bed, and the spray tan equipment, is in the third treatment room:
Beauty treatment room 3 Our beauty therapists have been busy rehearsing their spray tanning techniques using eager volunteers from our hairdressing stylists. We're delighted with the results from the Sun Laboratories equipment and it's proving very popular with our clients.

The main hairdressing salon has had a few more soft furnishings installed. We love these rather wild chairs:

You have to creep up on them quietly otherwise they run away Some chairs to fill a gap in the main salon

November 2008 : The new salon is open for business!
Well, as at the 17th of November, almost. It's what we're calling a soft opening at the moment. The interior of the salon is complete and fully operational but there's some exterior decoration to be completed and the upstairs beauty rooms will be completed in a few days.

Why not have a look at what we'll call mad Sunday, the 16th of November. It took a superhuman effort, with everyone telling us there was no way we could open on Monday, to go from this at 16:00 on Sunday:
"You'll never finish it for tomorrow" "Tomorrow? No chance!" "Nope" A view through two of the beauty rooms. This will change a lot in the next few days.
... to this at 03:00 on Monday:
The result of a lot of hard work Looking rather smart if we do say so ourselves

October 2008 : We're moving to an amazing new salon in Nantwich
We've been looking for new premises in Nantwich for a while and, finally, we've found the ideal location, in the heart of Nantwich, at 12 Beam Street. We're busy creating the salon right now and expect it to be ready for mid-November.

The ground floor will be a beautiful, spacious hair salon delivering the latest hairdressing techniques from our talented team. Located on the first floor will be Salon Vie Beauty, a new venture for us, offering incredible nails, inspirational makeup, heavenly massages and skin-friendly spray tans.

If you'd like to see the new salon, in a rather unfinished state, have a look at the images below.

February 2008 : Salon Vie's Charity Fashion Show - 'One Night In Heaven'
The show, in aid of breast cancer research, was held at the Barbour Institute, Tattenhall on Friday the 1st of February. We're very pleased to say that it was a sell-out and raised over two thousand pounds for the charity. That's DOUBLE what we were expecting!

We'd like to sincerely thank everyone involved including the fashion suppliers, the models, the beauticians, the Salon Vie teams, who worked feverishly throughout the day and night, friends and business associates who donated prizes for the raffle and, not least, everyone who attended. We hope you had a great evening.

Many people asked us where we'd got the models from. Well, they may have looked like professional models, but they were all friends and clients of Salon Vie who freely gave up large amounts of their own time to help with the event. We can't thank them enough.

Thanks again to anyone who contributed.

Jane & Mike
